  AFCSC SENIOR COURSE 31 EMBARKS ON 2009 AFRICAN STUDY TOUR

In a quest to improve on the knowledge of the African continent in a wider perspective in terms of history, geopolitical survey, social and economic affairs, students of Senior Course 31, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji recently embarked on a study tour of some selected African countries.

The Study Tour, Which is part of the programmes scheduled for the Senior Course 31 training curriculum had a theme as, “Enhancing African Unity through Socio Economic and Military Cooperation”. The tour took the students, Directing Staff and other College officials to 11 sister African Countries which include Botswana, Cameroun, Ethiopia, the Gambia, Angola, Kingdom of Lesotho, Kenya, Republic of South Africa, Sierra Leone, Togo and Uganda.

During the continental tour, the students were divided into syndicates to study the countries they were visiting in the areas that have to do with their history, tradition, culture and occupations. The syndicates also covered other areas like politics, structure of government, foreign and defence policies of the African countries. The Senior Course 31 student further assessed areas like ties/relations of the countries with Nigeria, policies/strategies of the countries government, their strengths/weaknesses, opportunities, threat and analysis in comparison with the Nigerian domestic realities.

According to the Director Dept of Joint Studies, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Brigadier General Lot Linus, the one week exercise is an important aspect of the Senior Course programme in which the students are expected to derive immense benefits. Brigadier General Lot who was the organizer of the 2009 Study Tour also started that much knowledge is derived by the students, generally by traveling and visiting important places. He added that an exercise like the tour fosters an ending friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and African countries visited
