The Department of Joint Studies (DJS) formerly known as
Faculty of Joint Studies was established to
co-ordinate all tri-service studies of the Armed
Forces Command and Staff College. At its inception,
the Department was composed of the HQ and 2
Divisions namely, the Strategic Studies and Joint
Warfare Divisions. In Nov 99, the General Studies
Division was created bringing the divisions in the
Department to 3. The DJS is the arm of the Armed
Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) that
handles the joint, combined and multi-agency aspect
of the students training which is approximately 60%
of the curriculum. The Department also handles
training of Senior Non Commissioned Officers (SNCO)
in staff duties.

Structure of the Department |

|
The Department of Joint Studies (DJS) has 3
divisions, namely:
Joint Warfare Division (JWD),
General Studies Department (GSD)
Strategic Studies Division (SSD).
The JWD is responsible for conducting joint
military training, including Joint Staff
Duties for non-commissioned officers among
the Army, Navy and Air Force personnel. The
8 – week Staff
Duties (SD) course run by JWD is
for clerks. A total of 3 SD Course are
conducted each year. The JWD is also
responsible for conducting joint security
training for the Armed Forces, Police, State
Security Service and
other para-military establishments.
The SSD is responsible for the planning and
conduct of
geo-political studies, Nigeria Study Tour of
the States of the Federation and the Africa
Study Tour. The Division is also
responsible for conducting lectures and
presentations on geo-political and
environmental issues as well as elective
courses in Typing, French and Computer
Sciences.

Department's Recent Achievements |
|
|
The Department
successfully conducted 2
orientation courses for newly posted in Directing Staff
in March and August 2006. T It
also successfully anchored Terms 1, 4 and 5
of Senior Course 28 and Term 1 of Junior
Course 61/2006 as well as Term 1 for both SC
29 and JC 62/2006.
