 AIR CDRE GO EKAGBO      DSS psc(+) fndu (PRC)

Air Commodore Godwin Owoicho Ekagbo was born to Mr and Mrs Omale Ekagbo on 31 Dec 1959. He completed his primary education from Saint Francis Primary School Otukpo in 1972 and proceeded to Mount Saint Michael Secondary school Aliade from January 1973 to June 1977. On completing his secondary education in 1977, he gained admission to Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in December 1977 as a member of 23rd Regular Combatant Course. The senior officer graduated from NDA in Dec 1979 and proceeded to Ground Training Group, NAF Base Kaduna for further military training. He was commissioned pilot officer on 28 June and proceeded to 301 Flying Training School for ab-initio flying training. However, his desire to be an air force pilot suffered a set back as he lacked necessary flying aptitude and eventually, he ended up as an aircraft maintenance engineering officer.

 

His career in the NAF Air Engineering Specialty began in June 1982 when he was nominated to attend Aircraft Maintenance Officers’ course (AMOC) at Chanute Air Force Base, USA. In 1983, he was at Lockheed-Martin Incorporation, Atlanta Georgia for his specialization on the C - 130 aircraft.In 1987, his career received another boost when he led NAF aircraft engineers and technicians to Singapore Aerospace Industries, for the C – 130 depot-level maintenance experience.  Furthermore, in 2005, he was a member of the Ministry of Defence team, which inspected and assessed facilities of SORGAMA of France, before it was awarded the contract to carry out PDM on NAF913 C-130 aircraft. He was also a member of the team of NAF officers that visited China in 2009, to inspect and accept the F-7 Ni and FF-7Ni aircraft before delivering to the NAF.

 

 

The senior officer attended several military and civil courses and held several appointments. He attended Junior and Senior Command and Staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in 1990 and 19877/1988 respectively. But in between, he attended Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife from 1994-1996 and obtained a diploma in Communications/ Electronic. Air Commodore Ekagbo was the Staff Officer Grade 2 at Airlift Transport Group (now 88 Military Airlift Group), from 1984 – 1986 and Acting Commanding Officer, Elecrtonical/Electronic Overhaul Centre (CEEOC) in 1987. He was also the Officer Commanding Electrical Squadron at EEOC from 1988 – 1994.   From 1999 to 2001, he was a Directing Staff at AFCSC. On completing his tour of duty as DS, he was nominated as United Nations Mission Observer to United Nations Iraq- Kuwait Observer Mission (UNIKOM) from    Aug 2001 – Aug 2002. At the end of his tour of duty at UNIKOM, he was appointed as the pioneer Local Training Coordinator from 2002 – 2005. He was posted to 401 Aircraft Maintenance Deport (401 ACMD) as the Deport maintenance officer, an appointment he held until was appointed commander of the unit in August 2005. After 9 months as commander 401 ACMD, he was nominated to attend College of Defence Studies, National Defence University, Beijing China for Defence and International Security Course from August 2006 to July 2007. Godwin served briefly as Deputy Director Coordination at Department of Research and Development in Defence Headquarters and later Command Air Engineering Officer at Logistics Command Headquarter. He was appointed Commander 33 Logistics Group on 17 Dec 2007, an appointment he held until he was posted to AFCSC as the Director, Department of Air Warfare.

 

 

 

 

Air Commodore GO Ekagbo is married to Sally Ekagbo (NEE Omoha) and they are blessed with 3 children. The senior officer’s hobby includes fishing and watching documentaries on nature. He enjoys playing golf.
